Inaugural Summit surpasses all expectations – 210 MoUs worth Rs310,277 crore signed

Ranchi, 17 February 2017: The Jharkhand Government’s maiden two-day (16 and 17 February) investment promotion event, ‘Momentum Jharkhand Global Investors’ Summit 2017’, at Khelgaon, Ranchi, ended a spectacular success as 210 MoUs were signed worth Rs310,277 crore. An unprecedented 11,000-plus Indian and foreign delegates registered for the event.

Smt Droupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble Governor of Jharkhand, thanked the gathering for reposing their faith in Jharkhand and said: “It is said that you cannot stop an idea whose time has come. Now the time has come for the idea of Jharkhand to materialize. I sense an abundance of new energy and purpose in the emerging leadership.”

Highlighting the advantages of investing in Jharkhand and thanking entrepreneurs who had signed MoUs, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shri Raghubar Das said: “On behalf of the 3.25 crore Jharkhandis, I thank all delegates for being present today. Although the Global Investors’ Summit ends today, but for my team of Ministers a new chapter in development begins. During the two days of deliberations, 210 MoUs were signed worth Rs310,277 crore. We believe Governments cannot run on slogans alone, but on proper norms. I assure investors that their investments will fructify within the given timelines. I have appointed specific bureaucrats and ministers to look into any problems entrepreneurs may face. In this way we can ameliorate the poverty that exists among our people.”

The Hon’ble CM added: “I assure investors that whatever MoUs are signed, these will become operational. Some prospective investors have already been sent to see the land today. There is no problem with land since the people of Jharkhand want development. Our focus will remain on Agriculture, Industry, IT and Tourism in developing Jharkhand. In the next 2-3 years, Jharkhand will emerge as the growth engine of India. The red carpet will always remain rolled out for national and international investors and entrepreneurs.”

Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister for Communications & Information Technology and Law & Justice, said: “Momentum Jharkhand is a change in thinking, in mindset. In the very first Summit if 11,000-plus delegates arrive, then Jharkhand has arrived! Jharkhand has done major work in IT, which can be leveraged for boosting business too.”

Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, said: “I congratulate the Jharkhand Government for the wonderful logo chosen. For the past year we have seen Jharkhand rise effortlessly in the Ease of Doing Business, despite the 390 yardsticks we have given. The State’s policy on Start-ups is extremely convincing.”

Shri Ramkripal Yadav, Minister of State, Rural Development (Independent Charge), Government of India, said: “Through this Summit, I am sure investments will come that result in generating huge employment. Jharkhand will surely become the No.1 investment destination.”

Shri Sudarshan Bhagat, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, said: “An air of change is already apparent after the Summit. Jharkhand is one of the top states in the race for development and investors should come forward to invest here, as the State has immense potential for rapid growth and development.”

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Shri Jayant Sinha said: “This State was always rich but its people were poor. This Summit will not only make Jharkhand richer but also its people.”

Shri R S Sharma, Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, said, “I never imagined this event would be organized on such a grand scale. Jharkhand always sought political stability, vision and clear direction. All these qualities exist in our current Chief Minister. I am confident all the Memorandums of Understanding will fructify.”

Addressing the gathering, Smt Rajbala Verma, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Jharkhand said: “The moment for Jharkhand has arrived. The Summit has established our credentials as the next growth engine of India and will put Jharkhand on the world map of investments.”

Presenting the Summit’s Report Card, Shri Sunil Kumar Barnwal, IAS, Secretary (Industries), Government of Jharkhand, said: “We expected around 5,000 but there were 11,029 registered delegates. Around 600 foreign delegates came. Besides 210 MoUs signed, there were multiple B2B and B2G meetings over two days.”

Shri Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII – National Partner, said: “This Summit has touched an unprecedented scale within the first edition itself. I spoke to some investors this morning who told me they were going to see the land for their projects!”

An impressed Shri Damien Syed, Consul General, Consulate General of France in Kolkata, said: “During the past two years, Jharkhand has become a business-friendly state. French companies will be interested in the opportunities available, particularly in Smart Cities.”

Shri T V Narendran, MD, Tata Steel, said: “I am confident the Government will be able to take the State to new heights. I congratulate the Government for organizing a world-class Summit.”

Shri O P Mittal, National President, Laghu Udyog Bharati, congratulated the Government for organizing the Summit successfully and was confident the Jharkhand Government would achieve the Momentum they have been aspiring for under the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister.
